Hello to all,
It’s been a busy New Year, and already we’re into the second month of 2016.
As I stated at the Legal Update Conference, I will be giving updates on what’s happening at CTER.
First of all I would like to say that the Legal Update Conference was a great success with 191 attendees and was a great fundraiser for CTER. As you look at our website, you will see a wealth of information posted (video highlights | photos | downloads). Please take the time to review it, especially if you couldn’t join us.
If you were not in attendance at the Legal Update Conference, we honored our new Chairwoman, Theo De La Rosa from the Southwest Region. She is the first female Chair of the Board of Directors and Francene Shakespeare, who is from the Rocky Mountain Region is the first female Vice Chair. Join me in honoring these women for their excellent service and commitment.
After the first of the year, CTER has been working on renewing memberships for 2016. So far, we have received 27 2016 membership renewals from tribes. Thank you to all of you who sent in your membership dues! For tribes who haven’t, please get them in as soon as possible. These funds help with CTER’s fiscal budget and if you plan on sending representatives to our conferences, it will make good fiscal sense to you too.
For the month of January, CTER is finishing up on our NCCI project at the Yurok Tribe in Northern California. We had some problems with getting materials there and the tribe extended our contract another 30 days, so we should be finished around February 15, 2016. CTER and Yurok will be doing another NCCI with just the TERO Department without any other programs involved.
We have been working on a few contracts for CTER training. One in Alaska with the Sitka Tribe for April, and with Warm Springs and Umatilla in Oregon.
We are also getting ready for the training that is happening in Phoenix, AZ February 24, 25, and 26. Check here for more information.
The Constitution and Bylaws that were updated by the Board at the December Board Meeting are available here (PDF). We will have finished our 2016 Directory by next week.
The Pacific Northwest Regional Conference date is April 19 and 20, 2016 and registration forms are available here.
We have some new Board Members to announce: Stephanie Fisher, alternate from the Rocky Mountain Region, Terrance Veo, alternate from the Northern Plains Coalition, John Overacker, board member from the Southern Plains Region, and Martha J. Wind, board member also from Southern Plains are joining our Board of Directors.
Jason John, Board Member from the Eastern Region, is working on the first Eastern Regional conference call to take place soon. If you are from that region, please contact Greta Stough to get more information at 206.673.4174.
Sometime this month we will be launching an Associate Membership Drive. Information will be available on the website soon. If you know of an organization who may be interested, please have them contact me.
We have received bids for the 2016 CTER National Convention and will be deciding on a date and location very soon. Please look for the Save the Date Announcement coming out in the next few days.
The 2016 Legal Update Conference will again take place at the Monte Carlo Resort in Las Vegas on Dec 7-9, 2016. Please Save the Date! We are already working on the agendas for the National Convention this summer and the Legal Update next winter. If you have suggestions for topics or speakers, please contact me.
I would like to give my condolences to our members and friends who have lost a loved one in the last couple months and offer them my prayers.
That’s all for now. Please check back for more updates from CTER. If there is anything you would like me to address in my updates, please let me know.
Lee Adolph,
President, CTER
