Muriel A Slickpoo

“Eelou I ya Tshohnt my” (Winter Storm Woman)

Muriel A Slickpoo was born on September 18, 1956, in Clarkston, WA, and passed away on Monday, June 12, in Lewiston, ID, of renal failure.

Muriel was very outspoken and advocated for Tribal rights which include conflicts at Rapid River in 1980, saving the Nez Perce ancestral fishing grounds and she also travelled to Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota to protest the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Muriel also worked for the Nez Perce tribe as a TERO officer, Director and National TERO commission Secretary and Chairperson. She is also credited with writing the current TERO Compliance Plan, which is included in the Title IX Law & Order Coe of the Nez Perce tribe.

CTER would like to extend our condolences to Muriel’s family, friends and TERO Community.
